CleanBoost (a Carbonex product) Now Registered with the United States EPA

Combustion Technologies is pleased to announce that 211B testing at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) was finally completed and that one of our diesel additives was registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the regulations of 40 CFR 80.

As the original developer of Carbonex Diesel and the exclusive manufacturer of CleanBoost (used off-road and in pilot projects since 2003), this EPA registration represents an important milestone for Combustion Technologies.  We look forward to working even more closely with our partners and U.S. distributors and to the expansion of commercial sales of CleanBoost in the on-road diesel market.

Our US subsidiary, Combustion Technologies USA, LLC, in Sandy, Utah, is the master distributor of CleanBoost products for the United States.

Combustion Technologies' U.S. distributor, White Sands, recently contracted SwRI to perform SAE J1321 tests to measure the fuel savings generated by CleanBoost (a Carbonex product).  The long-haul test vehicles were 2003 model year Freightliner tractors, powered by Detroit Diesel 60 Series engines.

Southwest Research Institute, of San Antonio, Texas, reports that diesel consumption was reduced by an average of 3.06%.

Chinese Technology Fair December 18-21, 2002

Mr. Andrew Xu, our Director of Business Development for the Greater China Area was recently in Jinan, the Provincial Capital of Shandong , representing Carbonex Fuel Additives at the Overseas Personnel Exchange & Economic, Trade, Technology Cooperation Fair, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Shandong Province.

Mr. Xu actively participated in the R&D work for Carbonex Fuel Additives with Combustion Technologies and is also the founder of North American Petrochemicals and Global Technology Corporation, which capitalizes upon emerging technology and economic opportunities between China and North America.

The aim of this fair was to set up a number of hi-tech projects in the areas of electronics, information, biology, maritime technology, energy and new materials and bring about more business opportunities.  Over 10,000 participants were expected to attend.

Carbonex Fuel Additives are especially well-suited to the rapidly-growing Chinese industrial markets, where coal, heavy oil and diesel fuels are used extensively.  Recently, promoting the efficient use of scarce energy resources and reducing air pollution have become top priorities for national and local governments.

3.7 % Fuel Savings in Chinese Ship

Carbonex HFO was tested recently onboard an 8800 tonne passenger and vehicle ferry sailing between the Chinese ports of Dalian and Yantai, east of Beijing.  The Yinhegongzhu ("Milky Way Princess") is powered by a pair of medium-speed diesel engines (type NIGATA 8PC2-5L each rated at 5200 bhp) running on No. 6 bunker oil.  The ship is owned and operated by Yantai Sea Emergency and Salvage Bureau under the Chinese Ministry of Transportation.

After one continuous month of Carbonex treatment, the Milky Way Princess was found to be consuming 3.7% less fuel oil than on previous voyages, with all other operating parameters unchanged.  Black smoke from the exhaust was visibly reduced and the engines were reported to be running more smoothly than normal.

Carbonex HFO is one of the few North American manufactured fuel additives that has been tested and approved for sale within China.  It is available in Jiangsu Province from our distributors, Yangzhou Fuel Additive Co. Ltd.

Maritech Conference in Newfoundland

Combustion Technologies was recently in  St. John's for Maritech 2002, hosted by the Newfoundland Branch of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering. We talked to a number of shipping companies about how Carbonex HFO eliminates heavy oil combustion problems, such as carbon fouling and build-up in turbochargers and excessive soot formation.
